Matt Pence

recording engineer | mp@theecholab.com

Matt is the drummer for Centro-matic and South San Gabriel, and one of the most well-respected engineers in Texas. He has won "Best Engineer" in the Dallas Observer Music Awards for many years running now, but don't hold that against him.

Selected discography

American Music Club, Centro-matic, South San Gabriel, The Drams, The Breeders, Fishboy, Rob Gomez, Midlake

Matthew Barnhart

recording engineer, studio manager | mb@theecholab.com | matthewbarnhart.com

Matthew plays in the bands Tre Orsi and BLACKSMITHS, and used to play in the band Little Grizzly. He is FOH engineer for The New Year, and has toured with Shearwater, John Vanderslice, St. Vincent, and many others. He is overworked to the point of total uselessness and loves his cat and dog more than he loves coffee. (That's saying a lot.)

Selected discography

The New Year, Knife in the Water, Shearwater, Red Animal War, The Great Tyrant, Deep Snapper, American Werewolf Academy, Robot Monster Weekend, Little Grizzly, Tre Orsi.

Associates

Justin Collins

JC may be a hippy, but he's a hard-working vibe machine. He is well-known as the current sucker running sound at Hailey's in Denton, and has recorded a few zillion bands to 1/2" 8-track at his old Satisfactory Recording Studio. You will probably see him around the studio soldering things and making coffee. He also leads the band Burntsienna Trio.

Howard Draper

Howard has just about left the internal combustion engine behind. He plays in Tre Orsi and Small Things Amplified, used to play in Shearwater and Okkervil River, and still flexes ridiculous muscle as a sideman on some sessions.

Bryan VanDivier

Bryan played in the much-loved, long-departed band Wiring Prank before turning to a life of computers and nicotine. He now plays in the bands Tre Orsi and History At Our Disposal. He has lent gear, advice, and good vibes in exchange for being allowed to fix our broken guitar amps and busted guitars. He is currently starting a custom guitar business, focusing on his improved Jazzmaster design.
